Dead Horse Bay is located in the southeastern corner of Brooklyn and nestled between Floyd Bennetts Field and the Atlantic Ocean. The bay was once an idyllic ecosystem until New York City began to industrialize. Many industries polluted the waters near the bay and a poorly constructed landfill was used to dump construction debris. Now, it is infamous for its glass bottle beach and horse bones. No major cleanup has occurred at Dead Horse Bay since it was acquired by the National Park Service.  Access to the bay is limited, thus this book offers a small snapshot of the landscapes, animals, and artifacts one might see at the beach.
